BAS Carbon Footprint Report 2024/2025: Our Journey To Net Zero

British Antarctic Survey

British Antarctic Survey (BAS) are committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040. Transparency is central to our approach – we do not purchase carbon offsets. Instead, we prioritise direct action to reduce emissions at the source.

Operating in some of the world's most challenging environments, we remain dedicated to minimising our environmental impact while continuing to deliver world-leading polar research. Our net zero strategy is built on innovation, efficiency, and collaboration. Our new carbon emissions report for 2024/25 is now available.

We publish our carbon footprint annually, which includes:

  • Direct emissions
  • Purchased energy
  • Significant indirect emissions

These are measured using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. In addition, we report our total carbon footprint, capturing the full scope of both direct and indirect emissions to reflect our wider environmental impact.

To explore our latest emissions data, track our progress, and learn more about how we're reducing our carbon footprint now and in the future, read the carbon emissions report.
