Bass Highway summer resurfacing roadworks

Michael Ferguson, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

The Rockliff Liberal Government is working hard to make Tasmanian roads safer and more efficient.

Road users should plan ahead for delays throughout summer when travelling on the Bass Highway.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael Ferguson, said we will be resurfacing the highway at a number of locations from January 2024 through to late March 2024.

"These works will involve resurfacing the road to improve the safety and experience for road users and must be completed during summer months when the weather is consistently warmer and drier," he said.

"Where possible, to minimise the disruption to road users, we will only have one site being resurfaced at a time on busier stretches between Burnie and Devonport and between Latrobe and Launceston.

"Traffic changes will be in place at roadwork locations for the safety of workers and road users, and traffic may be stopped for a short period during resurfacing works.

"Please keep to the posted speed limits, follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs, and allow for 15 minutes extra travel time when travelling through each of the roadwork sites on the Bass Highway.

"The works are part of the department's resurfacing program for 2023-24 to keep the road network well maintained and safe.
