Bayside Investigates New Active Transport Corridor

Bayside Council will prepare a plan for a safe and connected walking and cycling route linking Bexley North, Rockdale, Banksia and Carlton railway stations, in accordance with the objectives of the Bayside Bike Plan 2024, following a resolution of Council at its meeting on 26 April 2026.

The plan will aim to connect key destinations, including schools, Bexley Library, Bexley Aquatic Centre, Seaforth Park, Bardwell Valley, local shopping precincts and sporting facilities.

As part of this work, Council will investigate a spur route linking Rockdale Station with Bardwell Valley Golf Club via Lydham Hall and the Bardwell Valley Parklands.

Council will include a project in the Draft Operational Plan 2027/28 to assess the feasibility of Priority Route EW6, as identified in the Bayside Bike Plan 2024, or a comparable route connecting Bexley North, Carlton, Banksia and Rockdale railway stations.

Following consultation with the Walking and Cycling Forum and other relevant stakeholders, a report will be presented to a future Council meeting outlining the preferred route option, estimated project costs, potential funding opportunities and a proposed delivery timeframe.
