Bayside Library is strengthening and enriching its Chinese-language collection through direct consultation with local Chinese-speaking community members, ensuring the collection reflects the voices, interests and cultural diversity of the community.
Library members will have the opportunity to explore a thoughtfully curated selection of Chinese books - spanning fiction, nonfiction, timeless classics, contemporary works and titles for all ages - and vote for the books they believe best represent their culture, interests and reading needs.
The program features a diverse list of potential acquisitions, including contemporary literature, children's books, heritage texts and publications from a wide range of Chinese-speaking regions, offering something for every reader.
Two drop-in sessions will be held from 11am-3pm on Saturday 28 March at Rockdale Library and Saturday 11 April at Eastgardens Library.
There is no need to book, just drop in at the appointed time to view the proposed material, provide feedback to library staff and the supplier, and recommend additional titles not currently included on the display.
Library staff, alongside representatives from suppliers, will guide participants through the selection process, sparking conversations around cultural relevance, reading trends and emerging community needs.
Community feedback and recommendations will play a vital role in shaping future collection decisions, ensuring the Library continues to evolve in line with the community it serves.
This initiative is delivered in collaboration with Kairos International.
