Beasley Road closes for upgrade

Orange Council

Orange City Council has begun a major upgrade of Beasley Road between the Mitchell Highway and Blunt Road.

Work began on Monday 7 August. The main part of the upgrade is the reconstruction of a culvert in Beasley Road, about 800 metres south of the highway. Beasley Road will be closed to traffic at that location for about 12 weeks.

Detours are in place directing traffic through Phoenix Mine Road and Blunt Road.

Road widening and rehabilitation work will happen in stages along Beasley Road between the Mitchell Highway and Blunt Road. There will also be road improvements at the intersection of Beasley and Beaumah roads.

Orange City Council's Infrastructure Committee Chair, Cr Jack Evans is pleased work has begun on the project.

"It's good to be working in partnership with the NSW Government to deliver this upgrade to a road that's a key link for residents around Lucknow and Spring Hill," Cr Jack Evans said.

"The road closure will be inconvenient, but detours are in place and I'm asking for locals to be patient. The end result is going to be a better, wider road and a culvert that will be able to handle heavier flows of water."

Residents in the area will have continued access on either side of the road closure, however delays can be expected. Council wrote to residents in the neighbourhood last month to let them know about the project.

The $2 million project, which includes intersection upgrades already completed at Blunt Road, is being funded by $1.5 million from the NSW Government's Fixing Local Roads program and $500,000 from Orange City Council.
