With the September holidays in full swing, Rockhampton Regional Council is encouraging the community to make a splash at one of the Region's pools and water play areas.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the region offers plenty of options to beat the heat.

"Spring is here and with it comes warmer weather — what better way to enjoy a sunny day than by visiting one of our four local pools?" Cr Rutherford said.

"Southside pool has extended its opening hours to accommodate the upcoming swimming season, open from 5am until 8pm during the week, 6am to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 5pm.

"The pools in Mount Morgan, North Rockhampton and Gracemere have reopened following their winter closure and are now operating throughout the week and on weekends.

"All of our facilities offer options to suit a range of swimming abilities, making them ideal for children, families, and casual swimmers alike."

The Region also offers free water play areas, ideal for families looking to enjoy the outdoors over the school holiday period.

"Located at Kershaw Gardens, Cedric Archer Park, and Riverside Park, the water play areas are complemented by nearby playgrounds and shaded seating," Cr Rutherford said.

"Don't forget, as temperatures continue to rise, we are reminding the community to stay sun-smart by frequently applying sunscreen and adhering to safety guidelines when around water with children."
