Farmers, processors, exporters, agribusinesses, agritech, and ag sector delegates from around the world have landed in Central Queensland, as Beef 2024 kicks off in Rockhampton.
The Albanese Government has invested a record $6 million in the 2024 iteration of this triennial event, which showcases the latest in technology, products and services relevant to Australia's $12.5 billion beef industry.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Murray Watt said that he is looking forward to catching up with national and international stakeholders.
"Beef is a magnificent event, one that the Albanese Government is proud to support," said Minister Watt.
"It means so much to the growth of the beef industry, to the broader agricultural sector, across rural and regional communities and the Australian economy.
"This is an opportunity to come together in beautiful Rockhampton, share knowledge, exchange ideas, assess the landscape, and plan a way forward."
The event was last held in 2021 and saw a record attendance of 115,866, with a direct and incremental expenditure impact of $94 million for the Greater Rockhampton area.
"Given that Beef 2021 took place during the pandemic and was unable to feature overseas visitors, it was an extraordinary success," Minister Watt said.
"Now that we're able to welcome international delegates back for Beef 2024, we expect that this year's edition will be even bigger."
Beef 2024 will feature an extensive range of events, from live demonstrations and competitions, trade fair, seminars, a symposium, and an impressive entertainment schedule.
"There's something here for everyone," Minister Watt said.
"Improving the sustainability, climate resilience and drought preparedness of the beef industry is not only a focus for the Albanese Government, it will also be a major focus for a number of seminars and programs being held during Beef.
"Building connections is another key part of the event and the Handshakes Program is one way that will happen at Beef 2024.
"The Handshakes Program will enable international delegates to meet face-to-face with Australian producers and industry stakeholders through business matching meetings, promoting collaboration, understanding and cooperation between international and domestic stakeholders.
"These connections are invaluable and will inevitably result in innovations that will take the industry forward.
"I'm also happy to report that some of the best chefs in the country will be here too, showcasing the incredible quality of Australian beef."
