Music Australia has announced the latest recipients of the Record Label Development Scheme and Record Label Marketing & Manufacturing Grants, with matched-funding initiatives designed to strengthen Australia's recorded music sector and support the development and advancement of Australian artists.
The investment of more than $1.59 million will support 40 record labels across the country, providing funding for artist development, recording, digital content creation, artwork, marketing and promotional campaigns, distribution and physical product manufacturing.
The program includes two matched-funding streams: the Record Label Development Scheme, which, now in its third round, provides grants of between $15,000 and $125,000, and its companion program - the Record Label Marketing & Manufacturing Grants, which provides grants of between $2,000 and $10,000 to eligible Australian-owned labels, label services and distribution companies.
Together, the two funding streams recognise the essential role record labels play in discovering, developing and promoting Australian artists to local and global audiences.
At a time when artist discoverability is increasingly challenged by a fragmented media environment, changing technologies and growing global competition, this investment helps ensure Australian labels can continue to invest in local talent, support their artists and contribute to a vibrant and sustainable supply chain including recording studios, producers, engineers, songwriters, publishers, publicists and other music businesses.
Record labels remain one of the most important drivers of artist development within Australia's music industry, supporting an ongoing pipeline of Australian repertoire and talent, strengthening Australia's musical identity
