Bendigo Creek Revitalisation Project

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The Australian Government is investing $7 million to improve parts of Bendigo Creek. This work is part of the Bendigo Creek Revitalisation program.

The project's Traditional Owner name is Yaram Yaram Bayikina, which means 'Bendigo Creek - reawakening it.'

It supports a healthier environment and strong cultural and community outcomes for Traditional Owners.

The project will include:

  • restoring the natural environment
  • returning the creek to a more natural state
  • reducing erosion
  • improving water quality
  • activities that help the community get involved across the catchment.

A key part of the project is the strong role of Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation (DJAARA). They will share Traditional Owner knowledge to help create a creek system that supports healing of Djandak (Dja Dja Wurrung Country) and Gatjin (water).

The project will also support the involvement of citizen science and landcare. These help the community care for Bendigo Creek.

The project will be delivered together by the City of Greater Bendigo in partnership with the DJAARA and the North Central Catchment Management Authority.
