Better bus services about to begin

A major element of our Better Buses campaign - an on-demand bus service - is about to become a reality on the southern Peninsula.

From next Monday, 21 February, residents of an area stretching from Rosebud to Safety Beach can book a trip from anywhere within that area and travel to or from Dromana Hub Shopping Centre, Rosebud Village Shopping Centre, Rosebud Hospital or Rosebud Plaza.

The new FlexiRide on-demand bus service will have no fixed route and will operate only when booked. Passengers can book a trip from their nearest physical or virtual bus stop, while those with accessibility needs can register for home pickup.

Public Transport Victoria is operating the service as part of a 12-month trial. It will run from 8am-3.45pm Monday to Friday and will replace the Route 787 service between Rosebud and Safety Beach, as well as Route 886.

Route 787 will continue between Sorrento and Rosebud with an upgraded frequency,

Journeys on the FlexiRide on-demand service may be booked either by downloading the FlexiRide app or by calling 03 8710 6377 between 5am and 7.30pm. Passengers can book up to seven days in advance.

We also advocated for improvements to other Peninsula bus services and welcome Public Transport Victoria's announcement of route upgrades to better connect residents and tourists to local attractions, work, education and other transport services.

From Sunday, 20 February -

Route 887 - Rosebud to Frankston – will:

  • extend further into the Rosebud residential area along Boneo Road
  • travel express via the Mornington Peninsula Freeway between Dromana and Frankston, reducing travel times
  • provide residents in Rosebud, McCrae and Dromana with a more direct access to Monash University Peninsula Campus, Frankston Hospital and Frankston Station
  • operate all year round including the weekends
  • increase in frequency to hourly on weekdays and run every two hours on weekends.

Route 781 – Frankston to Mount Martha – will:

  • be extended to Dromana
  • provide better service coverage in the Mount Martha area
  • remain at the same frequency.
