Bicheno Crowned Australia's Best Town

Bicheno has been named the number one town in Australia by Australian Traveller, topping the coveted '100 Best Towns in Australia to Travel To' list.

Overall, 10 Tasmanian towns were included.

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Jane Howlett, said this is a fantastic result for our State and all the tourism operators that deliver world-class experiences.

"Bicheno topping the list as Australia's best town is a fantastic result, and a real testament to the passion of our tourism and hospitality operators who work hard to showcase the best of what our regions have to offer," Minister Howlett said.
"One in six Tasmanian jobs are supported by tourism. On the East Coast it's one in three jobs - the most tourism reliant region in the country.
"This recognition is a huge win for our tourism operators and communities who are passionate about their towns and regions."
Tourism Tasmania CEO, Sarah Kingston Clark, said the accolades reinforce Tasmania's appeal as Australians look for holidays closer to home.

"Travellers today want more than a destination. They want to meet the people behind the produce, understand the stories that shape a place, and feel like they belong, even if only for a few days. Bicheno does this quietly and genuinely," Ms Kingston Clark said.

"From whisky distilleries and fresh seafood to local beers, wine, and morning ocean swims with the locals, it is the kind of place that earns recognition like this simply by being itself."
Tasmania has enjoyed a string of prestigious accolades both nationally and internationally in 2026, including Port Davey / On Board Expedition being named in TIME's 'World's Greatest Places', Bay of Fires in BBC's 'World's Best Beach Escapes', and Wineglass Bay in the 'World's 50 Best Beaches'.
