Community consultation is now open on six emerging 'Big Ideas' that will help shape the future of Mount Gambier's city centre and inform the Mount Gambier CBD Master Plan.
The CBD Master Plan will provide a long term vision for strengthening the city centre as the cultural, civic, commercial and social heart of the Limestone Coast.
Building on Mount Gambier's unique natural landscape, rich heritage and role as a regional capital, the Master Plan will identify opportunities to enhance public spaces, improve connections, support local businesses, encourage investment and create more housing options within the CBD.
The latest consultation phase follows extensive community engagement undertaken in March 2026, when a vacant shopfront at 24 Commercial Street West was transformed into a temporary project hub. Workshops, presentations, walking tours and informal conversations gave residents, businesses and stakeholders the opportunity to share ideas for the city centre.
More than 450 people contributed during the first phase of engagement, including 110 workshop and walking tour participants, more than 200 visitors to the pop-up space and 149 online contributions.
City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin said the community had demonstrated strong interest in the future of the CBD and a genuine desire to help shape its direction.
"Our city centre plays an important role in the economic, social and cultural life of Mount Gambier and the wider region, and it was encouraging to hear how invested people are in its future," Mayor Martin said.
