Biodiversity & Foreshore Plan Exhibition Opens

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is inviting the community to have their say on the Biodiversity and Foreshore Planning Proposal and Development Control Plan Amendments, now on public exhibition.

The proposal suggests changes to the Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and the Development Control Plan (DCP). These changes aim to protect biodiversity and enhance foreshore character. They also update planning controls in parts of the Local Government Area.

Mayor Elise Borg said, "Our river, bushland and tree canopy are central to the character of the Georges River area. These proposed changes aim to protect what matters most to the community," said Mayor Borg.

Residents want strong environmental protections. This exhibition lets them share if the proposal balances those needs with future housing."

The proposal builds on several years of studies and consultation. As part of this exhibition, the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure is requiring more community input about lot sizes for new homes around accessible places like Oatley Station.

Residents are encouraged to provide feedback on:

  • Biodiversity mapping.

  • Foreshore Scenic Protection Area changes.

  • Landscaped area and floor space ratio updates.

  • Proposed lot size changes.

  • Foreshore locality statements.

  • Overall balance between housing and environmental protection.

Submissions close 5.00pm on 23 March 2026.
