Bob Hawke College To Expand Into Old Freemasons' Hall

  • Heritage-listed Freemasons' Hall in Subiaco acquired for expansion of Bob Hawke College
  • New building will accommodate approximately 180 students once refurbished
  • $15 million investment to help meet the needs of this growing inner-city community

The former Freemasons' Hall in Subiaco will soon see high school students learning under its roof as part of a $15 million investment to increase capacity at Bob Hawke College.

Located directly opposite Bob Hawke College in Subiaco, the old Freemasons' Hall has been acquired as part of a project to expand the school's administration and classroom capacity.

Design work is now underway for the refurbishment of the heritage-listed building, which is expected to accommodate an additional 180 students at Bob Hawke College.

With work well underway on the nearby Subi East Redevelopment, this expansion will help meet the needs of this growing inner-city community.

This forms part of the Cook Labor Government's commitment to ensuring WA families have access to high-quality schools, no matter where they live.

It follows the opening of new modular accommodation at Shenton College in late 2024, as well as the addition of a new two-storey modular classroom block at Highgate Primary School.

It also builds upon the Cook Labor Government's commitment to deliver the new East Perth Primary School, which is on track to open in 2029.

Comments attributed to Education Minister Sabine Winton:

"The Cook Labor Government is committed to providing quality learning environments for all students, while meeting demand in fast-growing areas.

"Bob Hawke College provides a modern and comfortable learning environment for students, and I am pleased that this expansion will help accommodate more students in the inner-city.

As stated by Perth MLA John Carey:

"This is a smart, community-focused solution that responds to the demand for public education in our inner-city suburbs.

"It is fantastic to see the Freemasons' Hall given a new lease on life, with a purpose that directly benefits young people and local families.

"Our government is making significant investments in quality education infrastructure, including delivering a new inner-city primary school in East Perth and expanding Bob Hawke College."
