Body of missing man located - North Harbour

The body of a man who went missing after a boat capsized off Sydney's North Harbour last week has been located.

Officers attached to the Marine Area Command were alerted to reports a man was heard calling for help shortly before 4.50am on Saturday 22 January 2022.

A 25-year-old man was rescued from the sea and taken to Little Manly Beach.

He notified police that he and a friend launched their boat from the Tunks Park boat ramp about 9pm on Friday 21 January 2022, but the vessel capsized about 3am.

A large multi-agency search of the surrounding area continued in the following days, involving officers from the Marine Area Command, local police, PolAir, Surf Life Saving NSW and the Westpac helicopter.

Just before 10am today (Wednesday 26 January 2022), police were called to Middle Harbour, after reports two fishermen located a body in the water near Washaway Bay, Clontarf.

The body was recovered by the Marine Area Command and has since been identified as that of the missing 49-year-old man.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
