Bonegilla Weekend to Celebrate Culture, Music and Heritage

Bonegilla Migrant Experience is set to host a vibrant weekend of cultural celebration in November, as Spring into Bonegilla brings the community together at one of Australia's most significant post-war migration sites.

From Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 8, visitors are invited to celebrate the region's rich migration heritage as the historic grounds of Bonegilla Migrant Experience come alive with immersive experiences, live entertainment and exploration designed for all ages.

Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre was the first Australian home for more than 320,000 migrants as they began a new life in Australia following World War II.

Today, the National Heritage-listed site is preserved as a place of reflection and discovery, allowing new generations to reconnect with the stories that helped shape modern Australia.

The weekend begins with an exclusive in-depth tour and lunch experience exploring the vast former Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre, where participants will gain access to rarely visited former camp locations at Latchford Barracks, normally closed to the public.

With limited places available for the exclusive tour, visitors are encouraged to secure their tickets early to avoid disappointment.

A series of additional guided tours of Bonegilla Migrant Experience will take place throughout the three-day event, inviting visitors to step back in time and discover original camp buildings alongside an experienced guide.

At the heart of the weekend, visitors can immerse themselves in Hungarian culture on the Saturday, with vibrant folk dancing, music, food and drinks bringing the historic grounds to life.

Saturday's celebrations will also mark the opening of a moving new bilingual exhibition, Bonegilla Through Hungarian Eyes, presented by the Victorian Hungarian Council and curated by Ilona Fekete and Levente Várdai.

The Head of Melbourne's Consular Office of Hungary, Dr Endre Domaniscky, will deliver the opening address for this insightful year-long display, which brings together stories of Hungarian migration, belonging and identity while highlighting Bonegilla's significant role in Australia's multicultural history.

Don't miss a screening of Simon Reich's independent documentary Bonegilla - Their Life in a Suitcase, featuring the Moodemere String Quartet at Albury Entertainment Centre on the Saturday evening.

Pack your picnic basket and return to Bonegilla on Sunday for an afternoon of Italian music by Lorenzo & The Spaghetti Connection, as this irresistible ensemble fills Bonegilla's open-air setting with classic swing, infectious rhythms and a generous helping of Italian charm.

Whether you're reconnecting with family history, exploring Australia's migration story or simply after a weekend of live music, choose your way to spring into Bonegilla this November.

With high demand expected, don't miss your chance to be part of this unforgettable event. Bookings are now open for various experiences - explore the full program to learn more.
