  • New paid paramedics, ambulances to be delivered for Australind and Dawesville stations
  • In total, 15 paid paramedics, four ambulances and new infrastructure will be gained
  • The Cook Labor Government is delivering on its election commitment to boost paramedic services in the region
  • Since 2023, 43 regional paid paramedics have been funded to support the largely-volunteer workforce

Western Australian's based in Mandurah, Australind and surrounding areas are set to benefit from a significant boost to ambulance workforce and infrastructure.

Delivering on an election commitment to the region, the Cook Labor Government has allocated $18.7 million as part of the Mid-Year Review into the 2025-26 State Budget to ensure Western Australians get access to the emergency healthcare they need, when they need it.

Dawesville will receive 10 full time equivalent (FTE) paid paramedics, two new ambulances and upgrades to the existing depot facility.

Australind will receive 5 FTE paid paramedics to its hybrid model workforce, two new ambulances and a new depot facility.

In total that's 15 FTE paid paramedics, four ambulances and two new depots. The State Government has already delivered an additional 43 full time paramedics to regional subcentres since 2023.

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"Our volunteer ambulance workers are critical in a state as large and as diverse as ours, however it's vital we boost paid paramedics where possible to support our growing and ageing population.

"This investment will significantly boost resources in the fast-growing Peel and South West regions, ensuring Western Australians continue to get access to timely emergency care when they need it."

As stated by Member for Collie-Preston Jodie Hanns:

"We know these additional resources will be critical to our rapidly growing region, as more people choose to call the South West home.

"We're very proud of the hybrid model of hard-working volunteers and paid paramedics that care for the Australind region and surrounds, and look forward to boosting that workforce.

"Together with the Bunbury Regional Hospital redevelopment, the largest regional hospital redevelopment in the State, our Government is future-proofing public healthcare for the South West."

Comments attributed to Member for Dawesville Lisa Munday:

"As a former paramedic who worked right here in our community, I know how critical it is that we deliver on our commitments, especially when it comes to getting timely, life-saving emergency care. That's why I'm so proud that we are doing exactly that.

"The additional paid paramedics and new ambulances mean we will have a strong 24/7 emergency response team of paramedics and volunteers working in our region every single day.

"And with the expanded capacity of the brand new hospital being built on the Peel Health Campus site, our community will have the care it deserves, close to home and ready for the future."
