Boost for WA Medical Life Sciences Funding

  • WA health and medical life sciences businesses receive over $121,000 to accelerate growth and innovation
  • Funding delivered through the Market Access Grant Scheme, Accelerator Program Access Grants and Entrepreneur in Residence Program
  • Part of the Cook Government's $8.65 million commitment to the Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy

The Cook Government is supporting the growth of Western Australia's health and medical life sciences sector, with more than $121,000 invested in 18 local businesses.

The Market Access Grant Scheme (MAGS), Accelerator Program Access Grants (APAG) and the Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) Program are helping local businesses advance their products and services, showcase cutting-edge technologies to global markets and attract top talent to Western Australia.

Funding for these initiatives forms part of the Cook Government's $8.65 million commitment to deliver actions under the Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy, which aims to strengthen local capability, build commercial capacity and grow a globally competitive sector.

The fourth round of MAGS provided grants of up to $5,000 on an 80:20 co-contribution basis to support travel costs for local businesses attending major industry conferences and business events between 1 January and 30 June 2026.

The scheme helps WA companies expand market presence, promote innovations and build business connections, including attendance at key events such as BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego. In this round, 13 recipients were awarded a combined total of $63,936.

The second round of APAG provided funding of up to $20,000 per eligible organisation for senior or executive-level managers to participate in recognised national or international incubator, accelerator or business training programs.

Grants help offset flights, accommodation and registration costs for up to two team members. Two recipients were awarded a combined total of $29,830.40.

The second round of the EIR Program supported WA organisations to attract interstate or overseas entrepreneurs and experts for time-limited residency roles to promote Western Australia's biomedical industry nationally and internationally.

Up to $10,000 per host organisation is available for travel, living expenses and limited remuneration costs, with host organisations providing in-kind support. Three recipients were awarded a combined total of $27,310.

As stated by Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson:

"These grants are helping Western Australian innovators take their ideas to national and global markets, strengthening our position as a growing health and medical life sciences hub.

"By investing in the skills, talent and international connections of local businesses, we're supporting high-value jobs and building a stronger, more competitive industry for the future.

"The success of these programs reflects the depth of expertise in our sector, and the Cook Government is proud to back local organisations as they expand their reach and commercial potential."
