- Local public health plans to create healthier communities
- Grants available for local governments to support plan development
- New resources to assist rollout of local health initiatives
The Cook Labor Government is providing funding and new planning resources to help local governments to create healthier, more connected communities.
Under the State Public Health Plan 2025-2030, all local governments are required to develop their own public health plans by June 2026.
Through Healthway, the government is providing resources to help them meet that requirement and maximise the health and wellbeing outcomes for their communities.
A new public health plan template, developed by Healthway, will assist local governments to design and deliver initiatives that promote community health and wellbeing.
It will support the creation of effective and enduring community-led strategies that take into account the local context and unique health needs of each local government area.
In addition, a grant pool of up to $200,000 has been committed to the Public Health Plan Activation Program, allowing Healthway to assist individual local governments with plan development.
A Healthway grant of $392,520 to expand the Thriving Perth Portal - an online map-based support tool - will provide local governments with better access to community health and environmental data and insights to support effective planning.
Healthway is the State Government's only agency solely dedicated to health promotion and preventative health. To learn more, visit www.healthway.wa.gov.au .
As stated by Preventative Health Minister Sabine Winton:
"Local governments play a vital role in creating healthy communities.
"They are the heartbeat of our State and help make our communities more welcoming and supportive, ensuring Western Australians can thrive.
"The State Government is proud to support local governments through practical tools, direct support, and targeted funding to help turn public health plans into real action.
"By giving local governments the support and tools they need, we're helping create healthier, safer, and more connected communities for everyone - ensuring Western Australians can live their best life, regardless of their postcode."
As stated by Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley:
"Local governments know their communities best, and these new resources will support them to translate that knowledge into effective public health planning.
"From the new planning template to targeted Healthway grants and improved access to data, this package is designed to make it easier for local governments to develop and implement their public health plans.
"It's a positive example of State and local governments working together to deliver healthier, more connected, and inclusive communities."
