Boosting Support For Young People Through Kids Helpline

  • Kids Helpline to be expanded with a State Government funding boost
  • More than $1 million provided to help more young people in need of support
  • Kids Helpline is a free, confidential online and phone counselling service for young people

The State Government will provide a $1.35 million funding boost to Kids Helpline provider yourtown to support more young Western Australians.

Kids Helpline is a free phone and online counselling service for young people aged 5 to 25 experiencing mental health issues.

Last year the helpline responded to over 10,000 young people in WA with many of these calls made outside of business hours.

The service is particularly important to young people living in regional and remote areas of our State, where face-to-face services can be limited.

Kids Helpline has provided support and counselling for young people for over 34 years with more than 8.9 million contacts and responses made over that time.

As stated by Health and Mental Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"The Kids Helpline has a long history of providing support to our young people.

"Allowing children and young adults to reach out at any time of the day or night, either by webchat or phone call, is critical to ensuring mental health support is provided when it's needed.

"Investing in the mental health and wellbeing of young Western Australians is vital for the future of our State."
