Brigham and Women's Hospital, a founding member of the Mass General Brigham healthcare system, announced today that Charles A. Morris, MD, MPH, has been named chief medical officer for the Brigham family, including Brigham and Women's Hospital, Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital and the Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization, effective immediately. Dr. Morris will continue to work closely with Scott Schissel, MD, PhD, in his role as associate chief medical officer and physician leader at BWFH.

"He has been serving as interim CMO since last November. His proven track record of thoughtful and strategic leadership, coupled with his vast experience serving our community as a dedicated clinician make him a perfect fit for this role."

He is a visible leader at the Brigham who has supported several Mass General Brigham initiatives and will continue to be a valuable asset to both patients and our organization," said Giles W.L. Boland, MD, president of the Brigham and Women's Physicians' Organization.
Morris has held several administrative, educational, and clinical leadership roles at the Brigham, including program director for the Division of General Medicine Primary Care Residency and associate medical director of Primary Care. A longtime advocate for population health management, Morris established an ambulatory population health management program while serving as associate medical director of Primary Care and oversaw its operations, advancing the quality of care for several thousands of patients with chronic disease.
For the last seven years, Morris has held a leadership role in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer at the Brigham. He worked tirelessly during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic as co-incident commander, ensuring that the Brigham remained a safe place to receive and provide high-quality, compassionate, and equitable care. He continues to serve as a representative of and advocate for our local community.

Morris received his undergraduate degree at Princeton University and went to medical school at Case Western School of Medicine. Morris succeeds former CMO, Dr. Sunil "Sunny" Eappen, who left the Brigham last November.
