Bringing Back the Arafura Games: PurplePatch Community Hubs Launched
All the colour and excitement ofthe Arafura Games will be on show at special community hubs that allow locals,visitors and spectators to be a part of the 10-day celebrations.
Purple Patch hubs have been setup at the Darwin Waterfront andMarrara Sporting Complex withfree entertainment and activities available for all of the family.
Marrara and the Waterfront are two of five venues acrossthe city hosting more than 1500 athletes from more than 40 countries competingin 15 sports.
During the Games, the hubs will be more than competitivearenas with fun, free activities, food stalls, workshops, dancers andperformers from local multicultural groups, music and live entertainment.
Locals, visitors and spectators can test their sportingskills with pop-up games such as basketball, sepak takraw, table tennis andsquash and an obstacle course for adults and children. Didge players, drummers,local dance groups, craft workshops, pop-up photo booths and live music willalso be a part of the action.
The Darwin Waterfront and Marrara Sporting Complex arefeaturing heavily in this years Arafura Games. As well as being the venue forthe beach volleyball competition, the Darwin Waterfront will host the freeOpening Celebration on Friday 26 April from 6.30pm as well as the ClosingCelebration on Saturday 4 May from 6.30pm. Six sports will use the DarwinConvention Centre as their venue.
Athletics,basketball, football, netball, squash, table tennis, tennis and indoor volleyballare all taking place at competition venues within the Marrara Sporting Complex,a 15-minute drive from Darwins CBD.
