Broadford fatal crash

Police and emergency services were called to Broadford this morning following reports a car struck a tree.

It's believed a van was travelling north on the Hume Freeway when it left the roadway and struck a tree about 8.40am

The male driver, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the van.

Northbound lanes of the Hume Freeway are currently closed as police process the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dash cam footage, is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
