Hume City Council can confirm that on the evening of Friday 20 June, a chemical reaction occurred during routine pool maintenance at Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
Staff acted immediately, following safety procedures and evacuating the centre. Emergency services responded quickly and supported the situation on site.
As a precaution, nine patrons were taken to hospital for assessment. They are in contact with Council and we understand they are all doing well.
WorkSafe has assessed the site and confirmed the facility is safe to attend. The centre is open and operating safely, with swim school lessons and programs continuing as normal.
Council has launched an internal review to confirm the cause of the incident and ensure it does not happen again.
We thank our staff and emergency services for their swift and professional response and thank the community for their understanding and support.
