In honour of the 20th anniversary of Pro Hart's passing, Broken Hill City Art Gallery is proud to present Hart for Art - an anonymous community art exhibition and fundraiser supporting Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research and care.
Presented in conjunction with Global MND Awareness Day on Sunday 21 June 2026, Hart for Art invites artists of all ages and experience levels to create and submit original A5 artworks in any medium. Every artwork will be exhibited anonymously and sold at the fixed price of $50, encouraging visitors to choose works based purely on instinct, emotion and connection.
The project celebrates creativity, generosity and community participation while honouring the lasting legacy of one of Broken Hill's most iconic artists.
At the heart of the exhibition is a commitment to supporting important causes both locally and nationally. Fifty per cent of all artwork sales will support MND research and care, while the remaining funds will assist with the ongoing conservation and care of the Broken Hill City Art Gallery collection.
Gallery and Museum Manager Kathy Graham said the exhibition reflects the strong community spirit of Broken Hill while supporting a cause that affects many families across Australia.
"Hart for Art is about people coming together through creativity for a cause that touches many families across Australia," she said.
"The anonymous format creates a really unique experience where artworks are chosen simply because they connect with someone, rather than because of the artist's name or reputation. We're hoping people from all backgrounds and skill levels will feel encouraged to take part."
Artists of all ages may submit up to three original A5 artworks. All mediums are welcome, including painting, drawing, printmaking and photography. To keep the focus on handmade and personally created works, AI-generated artworks are not eligible for submission.
Works should be created on A5 art-quality cardstock, with a minimum weight of 280gsm recommended. Suitable A5 cardstock can also be collected free of charge from the Gallery during opening hours.
The exhibition officially opens and artworks go on sale from 10am on Sunday 21 June 2026, in recognition of Global MND Awareness Day. All are welcome to attend the official opening at the Gallery, with light refreshments, tea and coffee provided throughout the morning.
Submissions opened on 12 May and close on 16 June 2026.
