- Completion of civil works by Cook Labor Government marks another milestone for the Yinajalan Ngarrungunil Health and Wellbeing Campus
- Extensive land remediation, road construction, and installation of essential utility services are in place to support the future health facility
- Nyamba Buru Yawuru will now lead the delivery of this project
Civil works for the Yinajalan Ngarrungunil Health and Wellbeing Campus in Broome are complete in a major step forward for the new facility that will deliver a holistic range of culturally appropriate services.
The campus is being developed by Nyamba Buru Yawuru (NBY) and is an Australia-first initiative, which will provide holistic physical and psychological services to people in the Kimberley.
DevelopmentWA, acting as project manager for NBY, has overseen preparation of the site - including extensive land remediation to ensure it is safe and development-ready, construction of a primary internal road - Mirda Road, which links Dora Street and Clementson Street - and installation of essential services.
The project will now be handed back to NBY to manage future project requirements and leasing arrangements.
Planning for future facilities on the campus is already underway, including a Step Up/Step Down Service, to be constructed by the Department of Health.
The Broome Step Up/Step Down Service will provide contemporary, therapeutic mental health care through short-term residential support and individualised care, in a home-like setting close to their community, friends and family.
A new Renal Hostel, to be delivered by WA Country Health Service, will support the delivery of comprehensiverenal dialysis treatments for Aboriginal people across the Kimberley.
The Step Up/Step Down Service and new renal hostel are part of the Cook Government's ambitious $3.7 billion health infrastructure program, ensuring Western Australians can access the health care they need, where they need it.
A Lifestyle Village, proposed by NBY, will provide supported housing options for older Aboriginal people wishing to remain close to family and connected to Country.
