Work will soon be underway to deliver important upgrades to the Bruce Highway and Buxton Road intersection at Isis River.
The Albanese and Crisafulli Governments have listened to the Buxton community's calls for safer and better access at this key intersection.
Improvements will include dedicated right and left-turn lanes into Buxton Road, the local service station and fruit orchard, as well as improved access for nearby property owners.
The upgrade will also improve freight efficiency through the busy corridor in the Wide Bay-Burnett region, while helping maintain traffic flow along on the Bruce Highway.
Construction is on track to commence from July 2026 and is anticipated to take around 12 months to complete, subject to favourable weather.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King welcomed the upgrade, highlighting the Australian Government's commitment to improving road safety and connectivity across Queensland.
"The Bruce Highway is a lifeline for Queensland's economy, connecting communities and supporting industries across the state," Minister King said.
"This upgrade will not only improve safety but also enhance freight efficiency, helping local businesses thrive and grow."
Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said safety was the Queensland Government's top priority.
"We're getting on with the job of delivering after years of community feedback. The Crisafulli Government is acting now to fix the Bruce Highway for all Queenslanders, making it safe for local communities like Buxton," Minister Mickelberg said.
"This intersection upgrade strikes the right balance of safety, access and efficiency in one of the region's most important transport corridors".
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said upgrades to the intersection would be welcomed by the local community.
"Buxton locals know how important these upgrades are. For a long time, the community has voiced the need for better and safer roads to grow and thrive," Mr Bennett said.
"With construction starting soon, we are one step closer to delivering the roads and infrastructure for a growing Queensland."
