Bundaberg Council Backpedals After Community Backlash

The Bundaberg Regional Council has backpedalled on its decision to dismantle Jim's Row of Machinery, a popular outdoor art work in South Kolan, following a strong backlash from the community.

Incumbent mayor Jack Dempsey, who is in the midst of a campaign to retain his seat in local government elections just three weeks away, announced "the South Kolan machine art is here to stay" after visiting Jim Sauer on Sunday.

"I met with Jim Sauer today to sort out issues regarding his machine art at South Kolan. There amazing features will stay in place," Mayor Dempsey announced, signaling a victory for the campaign to save the attraction.

According to him, the council has committed to exploring options to ensure that the artwork complies with state standards and regulations, aiming for a "positive outcome" that respects both public safety and cultural value.

The change of heart comes after a spirited campaign led by residents and supporters, including a Change.org petition gathered thousands of signatures in support of keeping the installation.
