Bushfires NT Fire Response - Darwin River

NT Government

On arrival, crews found the fire spreading quickly and threatening a number of homes and properties.

Firefighting crews responded quickly with ground units, support from aircraft, and machinery, bringing the fire under control by 1:30pm.

Unfortunately, some property was impacted by the early stages of the fire.

Crews worked hard to bring the fire under control and prevent spread to surrounding properties.

The fire was made more difficult to fight due to long grass and vegetation around homes, as well as gas cylinders near some properties which posed safety risks.

The fire is now contained with crews remaining on site to monitor conditions, put out hot spots, and ensure the area is safe.

Extreme fire danger is forecast for Darwin, Palmerston, Coomalie, and Litchfield on Sunday, 17 August 2025. Bushfires NT and NT Fire and Rescue Service have declared a 24-hour Fire Ban for these areas, effective from midnight to midnight on Sunday.

While the fire is now contained, residents and travellers in the area are urged to stay up to date as conditions may change rapidly. For current warnings and advice, visit:

"I also remind residents to be prepared, follow their Bushfire Survival Plan, and report any unattended fires to Triple Zero (000) immediately."
