Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Training Workshop

To assist small businesses throughout the Region, Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will host an online Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery training workshop.

Held on 24 March, TRC Planning and Development General Manager Stewart Somers said the workshop would assist local businesses with their planning.

"There is no doubt this has been a challenging year for small businesses which is why it's important continuity plans are developed," Mr Somers said.

"Small businesses are particularly susceptible to the impacts of these events. They often do not have the processes in place to respond, are more impacted by staff shortages, have a harder time accessing limited supply chains, and can find it difficult to negotiate with suppliers due to their small size.

"This digital workshop will assist with preparing businesses for such events, build organisational resilience and confidence, and recover from business interruptions, disasters and crisis."

The digital workshop will be run by Sara Hales from The Bold Effect.

"Business Continuity Management provides certainty, confidence, clarity and comfort when it is needed most. It protects the people and the business and helps everyone to get on with life and get back to normal as quickly as possible," Ms Hales said.

"We'll share a business continuity framework and approach used by large businesses to manage the risk posed by business interruption, and reflect upon some case studies from around the world. We'll take a look at what it takes to lead a team through crisis or rapid change, and we'll leave participants with practical tools and process to implement in their own business."

Items which will be covered in the workshop include:

  • What is Business Continuity Management and how does it fit within the Risk Management context
  • Conducting a Business Impact Analysis to uncover priorities for protecting critical business activities
  • Identify crisis response plan, long term recovery priorities and actions to be undertaken immediately to improve resilience
  • Document, communicate, train on, test and update the Business Continuity Plan to ensure ongoing relevance and protection
  • Managing and leading during crisis events and disruptions
  • Lessons to learn and examples from other businesses who have been through crisis events.

The online Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery training workshop will be held on 24 March from 1-4pm. Participants should be owners or managers of a business.
