Bayside Council has officially dedicated the playground at Cahill Park, Wolli Creek, to the memory of Matilda Bee Britvan, a vibrant and much-loved 10-year-old whose life was tragically taken at Bondi Beach in December 2025.
A small ceremony was held on Saturday 19 September 2026, attended by members of Matilda's family, friends, representatives of Council and members of the State Government. During the ceremony, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in loving memory of Matilda.
Council consulted closely with Matilda's family, who shared that they had spent many happy times together at the playground in Cahill Park and warmly welcomed the proposal to dedicate the space in her honour.
The dedication ensures Matilda's memory will continue to live on in a place where local families can gather, play and create their own happy memories for generations to come.
Bayside Mayor Edward McDougall said
"It is fitting that this place, filled with laughter, friendship and play, stands as a tribute to Matilda's life and memory," Mayor McDougall said.
"May this playground serve as a lasting reminder that, even in the face of tragedy, the spirit of a young person can continue to bring happiness, hope and connection to others.
"I hope every child who plays here is inspired by Matilda's kindness, joy and love of life."
