The new truck is part of the Government's $12 million statewide investment in modern firefighting equipment, ensuring our first responders have the tools they need to protect lives and property when emergencies occur.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the Government was delivering on its plan to roll-out the modern equipment our frontline emergency services need.
"We're committed to strengthening frontline firefighting capability across Tasmania, and we're delivering on that commitment through our investment of 15 new Medium Urban Pumpers," Minister Ellis said.
"With greater pumping capacity, modern firefighting equipment and enhanced safety features, these trucks will help our crews combat fires in urban environments safely and effectively.
"We're building an even better Tasmania, ensuring our firefighters have the equipment they need to respond when they're called upon."
The statewide roll-out will see 15 new urban pumpers in service by July 2027.
The fit-for-purpose appliances have improved water pumping capacity, new firefighting equipment and enhanced crew features, including safety upgrades.
Liberal Member for Windermere, Nick Duigan, welcomed the new truck for George Town.
"We know the George Town area has unique firefighting needs, from protecting homes and small businesses through to major industrial and commercial facilities at Bell Bay," Minister Duigan said.
"This new Medium Urban Pumper will give local firefighters greater capability, improved equipment and enhanced safety features to respond to a wide range of emergencies.
"George Town's firefighters do an outstanding job, and this investment ensures they have the modern equipment they need for years to come."
