Tasmania's Electricity Prices Among Lowest In Nation

Today's Independent Tasmanian Economic Regulator report confirms Tasmania continues to have among the lowest electricity prices in the nation.

Treasurer Eric Abetz said Tasmanian residential and small business customers on all tariffs have either the lowest or second lowest annual bills in the country, at average consumption levels.

"Despite having some of the lowest power prices in the country, we know Tasmanians are feeling cost-of-living pressures," Treasurer Abetz said.

"Our Government is also delivering some of the most generous concessions in the country as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.

"We know Tasmanians use more power than households on the mainland, so it's vital we continue to have the lowest power prices in the nation."

Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said Tasmania continues to have some of the most affordable and reliable electricity anywhere in Australia.

"This is underpinned by our hydro scheme and decades of responsible investment in our energy assets," Minister Duigan said.

"For over a hundred years, our hydropower system has delivered safe, reliable and clean energy to power our homes and businesses.

"But new energy generation will be needed to ensure our State continues to grow. Project Marinus will enable this, providing a pathway for more wind and solar to be developed on-island, helping to ensure our power prices remain competitive."

Importantly, support remains available for vulnerable households through a range of concessions and cost of living assistance measures.

The 2026-27 Budget includes over 100 different types of concessions, including electricity, amounting to around $370 million in funding over four years.
