Call for Papers for International Conference on Effective Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Systems

Interested contributors have until 1 August 2022 to submit abstracts for the IAEA´s International Conference on Effective Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Systems, to be held from 13 to 16 February 2023 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

The conference, subtitled 'Preparing for the Future in a Rapidly Changing Environment', aims to promote the sharing of regulatory experiences towards strengthening nuclear safety and security. This IAEA-organized conference is being hosted by the Government of the United Arab Emirates through the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation.

"The goal is to have an open, transforming, and participatory discussion on strengthening nuclear and radiation regulatory systems globally," said Shahid Mallick, Director of the IAEA Office of Safety and Security Coordination, who is also the Scientific Secretary of this conference. "Papers on the range of topics being covered are an essential element of this conference, because we want to hear what is happening in different countries regarding their regulatory frameworks, the challenges they faced, the lessons learned as well as the cutting-edge innovations being used to improve regulatory infrastructures."

The conference will address topics such as experiences on how to ensure regulatory resilience and agility of countries to respond to new and emerging challenges in a rapidly changing environment. It will also address regulatory approaches to innovation and to emerging and new technologies, including regulatory harmonisation and international and regional cooperation. Other key topics that will be addressed are the concrete efforts to maintain regulatory credibility and trust, as well as capacity building, to ensure regulators are prepared for future needs through education, human resources, knowledge management and knowledge networks.

"Papers for such conferences are vital for the comprehensive analysis, research and richness of perspectives offered, and this effort also provides participants with a platform to exchange views, experience and knowledge," said Maria Moracho Ramirez, Acting Section Head of the IAEA Programme and Strategy Coordination Section.

The conference is the sixth in a series of IAEA conferences on effective nuclear and radiation regulatory systems. Earlier conferences were held in 2019 in The Hague, Netherlands; 2016 in Vienna, Austria; 2013 in Ottawa, Canada; 2009 in Cape Town, South Africa and in 2006 in Moscow, the Russian Federation.

Guidelines for the submission of papers are available on the Conference website.
