Calling Nominations For Our 2027 Australia Day Awards

Hawkesbury City Council is inviting the community to celebrate the people, groups and events that make our community stronger by nominating them for a 2027 Australia Day Award. Nominations are now officially open!

Winners of the Australia Day Awards with their awards in the Council ChambersEach year, Hawkesbury City Council honours outstanding citizens at a special Australia Day ceremony acknowledging their dedication, passion and impact on the Hawkesbury community.

In 2027, there are nine award categories, providing opportunity to recognise contributions across all areas of community life, including:

  • Event of the Year
  • Commemorative Plaque
  • Community Organisation of the Year
  • Arts and Cultural Award
  • Environmental Award
  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Local Hero Award
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Citizen of the Year

The 2027 Australia Day Awards will include the inaugural Event of the Year Award providing an exciting opportunity to acknowledge the hardworking event organisers that bring incredible cultural, social, educational, environmental or sporting events to life for our community.

Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Les Sheather encourages the community to submit nominations and shine a light on the people in the Hawkesbury that make our community thrive.

"In the Hawkesbury we are lucky to have many individuals and groups dedicating their time and energy towards causes and vocations that makes a huge impact on our community," said Mayor Sheather.

"Nominating these people or organisations for an Australia Day Award is a great way to acknowledge them and say thank you for their dedication and hard work."

Last year Hawkesbury City Council honoured seven individuals and one business at the 2026 Australia Day Awards including Citizen of the Year, Bruce Earle for his dedication to the Freemans Reach Rural Fire Brigade and Freemans Reach Cricket Club, and Young Citizen of the Year, Bailey Carle for his dedication and accomplishments in Basketball.
