Caloundra Music Festival still on song

The Caloundra Music Festival (CMF) will support our local and greater community by providing opportunity, support and prizes and special ticket allocations.

Not-for Profit groups, community groups, charities, schools and local sporting clubs can apply for the provision of tickets to the 2019 Caloundra Music Festival for fundraising purposes or special experiences. Online applications open March 8.

Caloundra Music Festival has cemented itself as an all ages, family-friendly music festival for the Sunshine Coast, and council today (February 28) committed to supporting the festival for another three years to 2022.

The four-day festival ignites Caloundra in a celebration of quality live music, alongside spectacular geography. The festival engages locals and attracts visitors from across the country.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the Caloundra Music Festival had been providing significant benefits to the community, music sector and economy on the Sunshine Coast since it started in 2007.

"The festival's growth and our community's pride in it, combined with high levels of attendee satisfaction ratings, have proven the value of having a music event like this on the Sunshine Coast," Cr Dwyer said.

"Delivering the festival wouldn't be possible without the commitment and passion shown by the 550 local and visiting volunteers.

"Being nominated in the Queensland Music Awards for Festival of the Year in 2018 and 2019 is also testament to the cultural experience this event delivers, not to mention the economic and community benefits for the region."

Caloundra Chamber of Commerce President Michael Shadforth said the festival was a community event.

"Our residents love coming together in substantial numbers to be part of this festival. It really has become part of the DNA of our town now," Mr Shadforth said.

"It's great that patrons can move in and out of the gate and frequent surrounding local business.

"The CMF is also a stepping stone for many of our local artists to develop into professional and touring acts from very young ages, more so than I've seen in other regions.

"This is reflected by the number of Sunshine Coast awardees at the Queensland Music Awards which showcase our young and emerging industry.

"In festival terms, it fits into our landscape beautifully. It is family friendly and a child safe festival - a massive badge of honour.

"That branding is important for Caloundra especially with so many young families moving to the Sunshine Coast."

Council today (February 28) endorsed supporting the Caloundra Music Festival in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and will refer an annual operational budget of up to $250,000 to the 2019/20 budget process for council's consideration.

The 2019 Caloundra Music Festival will be held from October 4-7.
