Cambodian Skilled Youth Prepares for ASEAN Competition

Cambodia's aspiring construction professionals have gained technical expertise and international exposure in preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Skills Competition.

Five construction trainees and students recently completed a two-week intensive training programme in wall and floor tiling at China's Zhejiang Construction Technician College (ZCTC).

Held from 30 July to 9 August 2025, the training was organised under the Belt and Road South-South Cooperation Skills Development Network and supported by the ILO/China Partnership Programme.

The initiative, aimed at nurturing Cambodia's next generation of skilled workers, delivered practical techniques through a "face-to-face, hand-in-hand" approach. Participants took part in both classroom learning and hands-on workshops using industry-standard tools and equipment. The programme covered key competencies in professional wall and floor tiling, including layout planning, precision cutting, and surface finishing skills essential for modern construction projects.

Beyond technical instruction, trainees were introduced to international standards and judging criteria used in global skills competitions. This included time management, material optimisation, aesthetic presentation, and occupational safety and health practices. This exposure is considered critical to equipping Cambodian youth with the confidence and competitive mindset needed to perform under pressure and meet the exacting standards of the
