FedDev Ontario investment for Huys Industries Ltd. to help develop and commercialize AI-driven technology
As a leading hub for artificial intelligence (AI) innovation, the Greater Toronto Area is seeing more businesses across key sectors adopt advanced technologies to boost productivity and bring new solutions to market. The Government of Canada is supporting these efforts through targeted investments in homegrown AI innovations that help businesses grow and strengthen their competitive advantage.
Today, the Honourable John Zerucelli, Secretary of State (Labour) and Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North, on behalf of the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), announced an investment, through the Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative, for Huys Industries Ltd. to develop and commercialize an AI-powered welding system. The company is undertaking a more than $1.3-million project, with FedDev Ontario supporting approximately $660,000.
Through this project, the company will integrate AI into its existing electric spark deposition welding system, used for coating and repairing metallic components. This AI-driven manufacturing solution will help reduce costs, improve efficiency, and expand market opportunities. This project includes AI integration and validation of the advanced ESD system, as well as marketing activities to support its commercialization.
The Government of Canada is committed to supporting businesses in adopting and advancing AI technologies, contributing to a more sustainable, future-forward economy and helping advance the objectives of Canada's Artificial Intelligence Strategy, including increasing AI adoption among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the country.
