$5-million Government of Canada investment for Concord manufacturer to green operations and create 65 jobs

The automotive sector in Ontario is a key economic driver for all of Canada. Investing in battery, electric and zero-emissions vehicles ensures that this region continues to be at the forefront of this growing industry, and will help Canada achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Today, during Economic Development Week, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), joined by Francesco Sorbara, Member of Parliament for Vaughan-Woodbridge, and Majid Jowhari, Member of Parliament for Richmond Hill, announced a $5-million investment for ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks Americas Limited (AMTB), a leading steel manufacturer of lightweight auto parts. Its steel, which is used in cars, electric vehicles, appliances and buildings, is made with innovative processes that use less energy, and reduce carbon footprint and cost.

With this investment, AMTB will modernize its equipment and technologies to fully transition its Concord facility from producing fuel-powered vehicle components to 100 percent Electric Vehicle (EV) components for the automotive industry. This will support the company as they collaborate with many leading EV Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The project will also create 65 new jobs in Concord.

These advancements will further support AMTB's cutting-edge capabilities that improve vehicle safety and efficiency and save floor and transportation space, while also reducing the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process and the vehicles built with its products.

The Government of Canada is committed to a net-zero economy, the development of green technologies, clean energy projects and sustainable practices. The auto sector is at the heart of Ontario's economy and is working alongside our government to help reduce carbon emissions by successfully adapting to a changing climate. AMTB is helping lead the charge to moving towards a more sustainable auto sector which is why investments like this are so important. This important shift is also helping create new jobs and opportunities right across the country.
