Canberra celebrates Children's Week

The Canberra community is celebrating the talents, accomplishments and abilities of children and reinforcing every child's right to a healthy childhood during Children's Week 2019.

"Children's Week gives us an opportunity to support children across the world and consider the future of our children and young people," Minister Stephen-Smith said.

"We are supporting local groups, organisations and schools to host activities and events this week through grants to the ACT Children's Week Committee.

"This year's focus is on children's health, drawing on Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child: Children have the right to good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and a clean environment."

The ACT Government is pleased to support the ACT Children's Week committee to administer grants to groups, organisations and schools to host activities and events during the week to celebrate children and young people in our community.

"I'm encouraging Canberrans to participate in activities across our city to celebrate Children's Week and support the rights and wellbeing of children."

ACT Playgroups' 19th Annual PlayFest is on tomorrow at Cook Community Hub on Templeton Street. Families with children with additional needs can attend from 9:30am.

Child and Family Centres along with the Child Development Service will host a stall focused on free play for kids including playdough sculptures and Connect and Construct Block games.
