Canberra is preparing to burst into colour, flavour and sound as the 2026 National Multicultural Festival kicks off this today, transforming the city centre into a vibrant global celebration for three unforgettable days.
Now in its 28th year, the Festival remains one of Australia's most loved cultural events, bringing together more than 170 communities to share their heritage through food, music, dance, storytelling and art.
The 2026 program promises an expanded lineup of performances, workshops and cultural experiences, with highlights including:
- A spectacular opening night featuring global music and dance showcases
- Hundreds of food and market stalls offering authentic flavours from around the world
- Interactive workshops, cooking demonstrations and cultural conversations
- Dedicated family‑friendly spaces, sensory‑friendly experiences, and seniors' relaxation areas
- The Festival Parade, set to bring the city's streets to life in a dazzling procession of costume, movement and music
This year also features a standout mainstage program with headline performances from Troy Cassar-Daley, L‑FRESH the Lion, and Jerikye Williams, bringing together world‑class talent from across musical traditions.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Michael Pettersson MLA, said the Festival continues to be a defining moment on Canberra's cultural calendar.
"In its 28th year, the National Multicultural Festival is all about discovery - where beloved traditions meet fresh experiences that surprise and delight. It's an unmissable celebration of community, creativity and connection," the Minister said.
