Carbon Vouchers Aid Farmers' New Projects

  • Round 3 of the Carbon for Farmers Voucher Program now open
  • $500,000 in vouchers available for professional advice to support new carbon farming projects
  • Cook Government investing in WA carbon farming and building strong, resilient businesses

Funding to help Western Australian farmers lay the groundwork for new carbon farming projects is now available through Round 3 of the Carbon for Farmers Voucher Program.

The program assists WA landholders to assess the feasibility of integrating carbon farming into their operations, and build stronger and more sustainable businesses.

In this round, $500,000 worth of vouchers are on offer to support WA farmers to access professional expertise to progress carbon farming initiatives.

Vouchers of up to $5,000 are available to explore project feasibility and options, including potential carbon sequestration, costs and returns, co-benefits, risks and other business considerations to inform next steps.

Vouchers up to $15,000 can be applied for to develop plans to assist with starting a carbon initiative, such as preparing a detailed project design.

The program builds on two previous funding rounds which has seen 90 vouchers worth more than $1 million committed by the Cook Government and over $163,000 in cash co-contributions from farmers to help develop WA carbon farming projects.

As stated by Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis:

"The Carbon for Farmers Voucher Program is a terrific initiative that is helping WA farmers to build more resilient and profitable businesses, and helping carbon farming projects to hit the ground.

"Interest in carbon farming continues to grow in WA and this is one of several Cook Government investments supporting our farmers to diversify income, reduce emissions, increase returns on less productive land, and deliver co-benefits."
