Bookings are now open for Cardinia Shire Council’s new bookable hard waste collection service commencing from 1 July 2020.
The bookable service replaces the previous twice-yearly shire-wide collection service.
Residential households that receive Council waste services can now book two free hard waste collections per calendar year for up to two cubic metres (2m x 1m x 1m) of hard waste to be collected at a time convenient to them.
Households will also have the option to book up to two extra paid collections at a cost of $100 per booking for up to two cubic metres of hard waste per collection.
The service has also been expanded to include car tyres, along with all items previously accepted in the former shire-wide collection service.
Along with delivering greater flexibility for residents, the move to a bookable hard waste service responds to our community’s expressed desire for a more convenient and efficient service, a reduction in the large amounts of hard waste on display at one time, and actively diverting as much waste away from landfill as possible.
The new service aligns to the approach taken by most Victorian Councils, delivers on actions in the Council Plan, and responds to community feedback received throughout the development of the Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy (2017-26).
Placing a booking
Hard waste collection bookings can be made online at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/hardwaste or by calling Customer Service on 1300 787 624.
To prepare for a collection, residents should check the list of acceptable items and follow the instructions for how and when to place unwanted items out for collection. This information is available online at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/hardwaste
Council encourages residents to follow the waste hierarchy by considering how their unwanted items can first be reused, repaired, recycled, sold or donated; or recovered before being disposed of.
For items that are in good, usable condition, residents can consider donating their items (checking with donation organisations first), giving to a friend or family member who needs it, or selling the items second hand.
