Cardinia Shire Council Statement 23 December

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Brett Owen has confirmed he will return from his leave of absence and will resume his Mayoral and Councillor duties in full, effective immediately.

Mayor Owen was granted a leave of absence at the Council meeting on Monday 15 December due to work requirements. On Tuesday 23 December, he advised his fellow Councillors and the CEO of his intention to return.

Mayor Owen said he was pleased to resume his responsibilities and expressed his gratitude to Deputy Mayor Cr Liz Roberts and Councillors for their support.

"Thank you to my fellow Councillors for their continued support, in particular Deputy Mayor Cr Liz Roberts for taking on the Mayoral responsibilities during this time and ensuring smooth continuity," Mayor Owen said.

"I also extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Cardinia Shire community for your understanding. I look forward to resuming my responsibilities, connecting with residents and continuing our work together as we move into the new year.

"As we head into the festive season, I want to wish all Cardinia Shire residents a safe and enjoyable holiday period. I hope you're able to spend meaningful time with loved ones and take a well‑deserved break.

"Please stay safe, and I look forward to working with my fellow Councillors, Council staff and the community to make our shire an even better place to call home."

Mayor Owen officially resumed his role as Mayor and Beacon Hills Ward Councillor on Tuesday 23 December.
