A man has been charged over multiple alleged carjackings and a pursuit in Sydney's southwest yesterday.
About 9.40am yesterday (Tuesday 20 May 2026), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol were patrolling on Port Hacking Road, Miranda, when they located a sedan being driven dangerously.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated due to safety concerns.
About 9.50am the same day, police were on Heathcote Road, Holsworthy, when they located the same vehicle and a second pursuit was initiated before multiple resources from Liverpool City Police Area Command, Fairfield City Police Area Command, Campbelltown City Police Area Command and PolAir were called.
The pursuit continued into Cambridge Avenue, Glenfield, where the pursuit was terminated.
Following inquiries, with the assistance from PolAir, detectives located a sedan abandoned on Hoddle Avenue, Campbelltown, after it crashed into a parked vehicle.
A short time later, the driver – a 36-year-old man – was arrested nearby.
He was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for treatment under police guard.
He was later charged with 22 offences:
- Assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle
- Steal motor vehicle
- Negligent driving (five counts)
- Not give particulars to other driver (five counts)
- Enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse
- Larceny (two counts)
- Unlawfully take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it
- Demand property with menaces with intent to steal (two counts)
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously (two counts)
- Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and
- Hinder/resist law enforcement officer in execution of duty.
Police allege since 8.30am yesterday, he stole two cars and attempted to steal three further cars in the Cabramatta, Canley Vale and Caringbah areas.
Police further allege when he was driving the sedan on Railway Parade, Canley Vale, at about 8.40am, he crashed with three other vehicles and left the scene on foot without exchanging details.
He was refused bail to appear via a bedside hearing at Campbelltown Local Court today (Wednesday 20 May 2026).
