SINGAPORE, September 15, 2025 - The World Bank Group has appointed Carlos Felipe Jaramillo as Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) Region, effective September 15, 2025.
Jaramillo brings over two decades of proven leadership across multiple regions and global practices, positioning him to drive the Bank's jobs-focused development agenda in one of the world's most dynamic regions.
As EAP Vice President, Jaramillo will oversee partnerships with 23 countries and manage an active portfolio exceeding US$32 billion. "East Asia and the Pacific remains a global engine of growth, technology and innovation, providing development insights for other countries," said Carlos Felipe Jaramillo as Vice President for the EAP Region, World Bank. "I'm committed to working with our partners, including on energy, human capital development, and digitalization, to create stronger impact-ensuring more jobs and thriving communities for all."
As Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean since 2020, Jaramillo led the Bank's engagement with 31 countries across the region, overseeing a portfolio of US$41.5 billion in ongoing operations. Earlier, as Division Director for Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda, he managed over 80 projects worth more than US$12 billion, and led the Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment Global Practice.
Before joining the Bank, Jaramillo held senior roles in the Government of Colombia. He holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in development economics from Stanford University.
