Caroline Wells will be the 30th Governor of Tasmania.
Ms Wells is an experienced and passionate community leader who has held Chief Executive and senior executive roles at both state and national levels and is widely respected both in the not-for-profit and public sectors.
Ms Wells commenced her professional career as a registered nurse, graduating in 1985 from the University of Tasmania and has held senior leadership positions in the health sector including Director of Nursing roles.
Notably in 2005, Ms Wells was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Diabetes Tasmania and during her tenure, also undertook national advisory roles with Diabetes Australia.
Ms Wells currently holds a number of directorships at both local and national levels across the health and aged care sectors, including serving as Chair of the Royal Flying Doctor Service Tasmania. These roles reflect Ms Wells strong commitment to these vital sectors and her extensive experience in corporate governance practice.
Ms Wells holds a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and holds professional coaching qualifications with the Institute of Executive Coaching and Leadership.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff today announced the appointment Ms Caroline Wells as the 30th Governor of Tasmania.
"I am extremely pleased to be able to announce Ms Wells appointment, after receiving formal approval by His Majesty King Charles III," the Premier said.
"The role of Governor is critical to the State, and I know that Ms Wells will serve with compassionate and purposeful leadership underpinned by a strong commitment to all Tasmanians."
The Premier thanked the current Governor, Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC for her significant and meaningful work.
"Her Excellency's service to the Tasmanian community cannot be understated," the Premier said
"I thank and congratulate Her Excellency on years of service to the Tasmanian people and many community organisations."
Ms Wells will be formally sworn in on a date in the near future.
