The Honourable Michael Corboy SC has been appointed Commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC).
He succeeds the Hon John McKechnie AO, KC, who retired as CCC Commissioner in June after more than nine years in the role.
Mr Corboy had been the Commission's inaugural Deputy Commissioner since July 2024 and interim CCC Commissioner since mid-2025.
He previously served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, presiding over civil and criminal cases, and as a barrister at the independent Bar for a combined period of almost three decades.
Prior to this, Mr Corboy was a partner at international and Australian law firms.
During his barrister career, he acted for the liquidator in one of Australia's longest-running civil litigation matters and was appointed a Senior Counsel in 2002.
Mr Corboy's five-year term as CCC Commissioner begins on 3 November 2025.
Scott Ellis, a barrister for more than 20 years, has been reappointed as Acting Commissioner of the CCC for a further term of three years, commencing 3 November 2025.
He practices mainly as a mediator, arbitrator, and adjudicator in building and construction, access to infrastructure, intellectual property, regulatory matters, and commercial and contract disputes.
The CCC investigates allegations of serious misconduct in the State's public sector.
As stated by Attorney General Dr Tony Buti:
"I congratulate Michael Corboy SC on being appointed as Commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commission.
"Mr Corboy brings eminent expertise in criminal, commercial and corporate law, having served in the legal profession with distinction for more than 40 years.
"I also congratulate Scott Ellis on his reappointment as Acting Commissioner, a role he has performed for nine years including one year fulfilling all the functions of the Commissioner."
