Celebrating Childrens Week Across WA

State Government strengthens commitment to child safety as Children's Week 2025 begins.

As Children's Week 2025 kicks off tomorrow, the State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a child-safe Western Australia (WA).

Running from 18 to 26 October, Children's Week is an annual celebration that promotes the Rights of the Child, as proclaimed by the United Nations in 1954. This year's theme is inspired by Article 42 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child: "Everyone should know about Children's Rights!"

In Western Australia, Children's Week is coordinated by the not-for-profit organisation Meerilinga. The Department of Communities (Communities) provides funding to support Meerilinga's Children's Week Community Grants Program, which assists metropolitan, regional, and remote not-for-profits and local governments in hosting events. To find events near you, visit the Children's Week web page .

In partnership with sector stakeholders, Communities is proud to host the Child Safe Organisations Seminar 2025 on Friday 24 October. This seminar will highlight the importance of involving children and young people in decision-making within organisations. The event is free and available both in person and online. You can register via Eventbrite .

The State Government is also encouraging organisations that work with children and young people to host micro-events focused on the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (National Principles). This initiative supports both metropolitan and regional groups by providing access to digital resources and encouraging community-led events. These resources are available through the Child Safe Organisations Knowledge Hub.

Communities is urging leaders across WA to review and strengthen their child safe strategies to ensure the National Principles are embedded at every level. For more information, visit the Child Safe Organisations Knowledge Hub .

Children's Week is a timely reminder of our shared responsibility to advocate for children as active citizens and to ensure they enjoy a safe, positive childhood.
