Central Palmerston Area Plan Released

NT Government

Palmerston is the family capital of the Territory.

Following wide consultation, the Territory Government and the Northern Territory Planning Commission have released the Central Palmerston Area Plan.

The Area Plan provides a decision-making framework to inform future rezoning and development decisions; it gives guidance, certainty and confidence to residents, property owners and decision makers. An Area Plan is important to help achieve a long-term vision for the city centre and surrounding areas.

Simply put, it helps us plan for the future.

Highlights of the plan include:

– Prioritising investment in the Palmerston City Centre as an employment, living and entertainment hub;

– Retaining Yarrawonga as a key service commercial, industry and employment hub for the Darwin Region;

– Promoting a connected, multi-modal movement and transport network by creating further bike paths along Roystonea Avenue; and

– Fostering improved amenity to create a sense of place for residents, visitors and community.

The Territory Labor Government values the community of Palmerston – we have built a new Police Station, Hospital and School, and development of the Regional Palmerston Fire station is also underway.
